Apparently, editing made Star Wars a much better movie.

Film editing is probably the most underappreciated element of move making.

It's a painstaking process, requiring incredible attention to detail.

I've been a fan since the first movie came out in 1977.

There's been one constant through nearly all of the films and series - the importance of friendship and teamwork. I think this is one of the reasons I've remained a fan, even through the prequels.

The main reason I stop watching TV series is the tendency for alliances and friendships to shift with gay abandon. Some people find this sort of soap-opera intertwining of story lines engaging, but after a while, when it changes the basic character of the show, I lose interest.

In fact, one of the major plot lines in the Star Wars franchise is the disastrous outcome when friendships and commitments are forsaken.

May it always remain so.

back in 1977, 10 times in theaters (still have the ticket stubs). It impacted me that much.

I never thought the 3 "trilogies" would ever get released but 42 years later they were.

And you are correct - it seems there are various types of fans - some more casual and some more intense (I think I'm about in the middle). But I agree that sometimes the "messages" and "themes" can get lost in the minutia - and that included all of Lucas' screwing around with the films to keep adding more and more effects after the fact. It drowned out the simple majesty of a scene like this -

I keep hoping that one day, the original original "Star Wars" will be issued, i.e., when Jabba the Hutt was a humanoid and not a slug, and Luke's relationship with his buddies (who later feature prominently in the various battles), are shown again.
