Steve Schmidt is a regular critic of the president. But today he strung an all-encompassing narrative that highlights his incompetence and danger.

(41,831 posts)NOW TALK about how Mitch McConnell and the Rest of the Republicans didn't lift a finger to help by removing this president using the 25th amendment.. NOW REPUBLICANS ARE IN LOCK STEP WITH TRUMP. Even today there are many in the Senate who deserved to be called out as well, including his ADMINISTRATION.

I wonder how Comey is feeling these days...

for the country! A cheerleader! He's not interested in the work the job requires but installed a bunch of crooks like his SIL to loot the Treasury for their little clique!

(43,128 posts)Trump is first and foremost guilty of disloyalty to the country because of his hyperpartisanship and division of the nation into regions, parties, states. There are only those loyal to Trump, and those not. This is not what a true President does. Steve Schmidt conveniently ignores the partisan issue, perhaps because he knows that Republicans will be able to use it again when Democrats are again the majority in power.
So don't talk to me about Steve Schmidt. He's mere building his Republican brand, and Democrats here should not be hoodwinked.

(15,682 posts)Here is an excerpt from Wikipedia:
In May 2018, when President Donald Trump moved the U.S. embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, sparking violent Gaza border protests, Schmidt said Trump "has blood on his hands".[31]
On June 19, 2018, Schmidt formally withdrew from the GOP over Donald Trump's policy of separating immigrant families at the U.S. border with Mexico. He also cited Republican leadership for their failure to challenge the policy. Schmidt said of Trump, "We have in Americaright now, at this hourto understand that you have a lawless president, a vile president, a corrupt president, a mean, cruel president, who is seeking to remake the world order."[32]
He tweeted "the Republican Party ... is fully the party of Trump. It is corrupt, indecent and immoral. With the exception of a few Governors like Baker, Hogan and Kasich it is filled with feckless cowards who disgrace and dishonor the legacies of the party's greatest leaders ... Today the GOP has become a danger to our democracy and our values."[33]
Describing his new political orientation, he stated:
This Independent voter will be aligned with the only party left in America that stands for what is right and decent and remains fidelitous to our Republic, objective truth, the rule of law and our Allies. That party is the Democratic Party.[34]

I am sincerely offering this as an FYI and not as bait to argue about Steve Schmidt.

(43,128 posts)Yes, I'm well aware. He's a Bush era Republican trying to save his party. They are still the opposition. Temporary allies. We're all in this war together. The Lincoln Project is giving Trump an eviction notice. We're stronger with them than without them.
