...as "niggardly" which technically has zilch to do with racial or even color reference.

We all got a college semester's worth of blank-splaining about the eytemology of "hnigart" versus "niger" and the evolution of the racial slur, plus a bonus master class in why the use of the term should rate as an attempt to dogwhistle and several weekend seminars on Freedom of Speech and snowflakery....

::sigh:: And after all of it I just decided There Are No Good Answers and that word was retired from my vocabulary and replaced by "stingy."

My job was was writing descriptions for the network television shows for the newspaper listings. And one of my co-workers got in hot water after a complaint because she used that word. We were reminded to aim our vocabulary at a 6th grade level when I made the mistake of describing Bart Simpson as "obstreperous."
