Related: About this forumTALKING POINT: Trump Wants A SCOTUS Vote BEFORE The Election Because He's AFRAID He'll LOSE!
...And therefore I TRIPPLE DOG DARE YOU to wait until after the election. You won't, because you're AFRAID you're going to lose. You KNOW you're going to lose!We all know that Trump (and most of his base) have the mentality of petulant school yard brats. The way you control petulant school yard brats is to dare them to do something stupid, and claim they won't do it because they're 'too chicken.' (Clucking sounds optional.)
If everybody says that ENOUGH, Trump will be put on the defensive. If he actually changes course, McConnell wont...and so you change the talking point to McConnell and the Republicans are sure he'll lose, even if he's not. Thus driving a wedge between the Trump base and the establishment Republicans.
If we succeed in getting Trump to delay the vote until after the election (try to do it in the lame duck session), that would be an ENGRAVED INVITATION to the Democrats to stack the SCOTUS with three more Associate Justices (or more). And it would destroy one of the most popular Republican talking points. Saying that they're simply following 'the voice of the people,' who specifically elected Trump as President, and a Republican Senate because they WANTED Trump to be the one who appoints the SCOTUS.
Therefore, if they lose, and try to jam another Justice through during a lame duck session, that talking point would be demonstrably false. The vox populi voted, and clearly said THEY DID NOT want Trump and McConnell to pick the next Associate Justice.
SO LET'S USE THIS TALKING POINT!
Trump and McConnell want a SCOTUS confirmation vote BEFORE the election, because they're afraid they're going to lose! (Again, chicken sound effects optional.)

He thinks he will be able to run to SCOTUS to overturn the election results - or get them to order the states to stop counting those pesky votes.

Well before most of the counting is finished. Most states will count the early absentees first.

want a conservative court. How is that going to help them win?
