Ford, Bush Sr., and REAGAN Himself Favour Statehood For Puerto Rico. WHAT'S THE HOLDUP?

Spring 2021, citizens organizations in Puerto Rico should petition the Governor of Puerto Rico, Wanda Vázquez Garced, to hold a referendum on becoming a State. If it passes by a large margin, they should send a petition to Congress, and Congress should vote on admitting them. That way, it doesn't look like Congressional Democrats are trying to pull in Puerto Rico. Instead, it looks like the American citizens living in Puerto Rico are ASKING to have their territory admitted.

With a population of 3 million, it's already bigger than TWENTY of the States that are already in the union. FIVE TIMES bigger than Wyoming. FOUR times bigger than Alaska or the Dakotas. Bigger than Kansas, West Virginia, Mississippi, Arkansas, or Iowa.

That's right. But, interestingly, it was in the GOP PLATFORM in 2008, 2012, and 2016. TrollBuster9090 Sep 2020 #5

Agreed. The biggest argument against would be that they have to start paying federal taxes. TrollBuster9090 Sep 2020 #4

And in 2020, they don't have a platform. Officially, all they're in favour of is 'whatever Dear Leader wants.'

The biggest argument FOR is that they'd stop being ignored when it came to federal programs, including disaster relief after hurricanes.
