(5,591 posts)Tampa Bay/St Pete area. My grand childrens other Nana and Papa live three blocks away, retired teachers and both are high risk.
My son is a Statistics teacher having to do both remote and live-at-the-school classes at the SAME time, in a pod on the school grounds.
My daughter-in-law calls on special needs children in their homes.
My granddaughter loves her remote teacher and is thriving but if she goes back to physical school, she will lose her teacher. My grandsons will start live pre-K at their school on Monday.
Florida is a fucking mess. With no leadership except ignorant tools of the wretched Cretin.
Ohio isnt anything to brag about either.

(111,244 posts)however, here in NM, things have been pretty strict and people have been mostly good about it and our numbers are starting to go up. It's not getting cool yet so people are still outside, so I think the schools are likely sources. Some opened. And of course all the college kids are back.
I just hope the kegger crowd manages to catch a fucking clue in time.

(111,244 posts)When DU went down after the "election," I started watching really bad disaster movies on YouTube. They helped because they're always told from the POV of the survivors. I still do that when I start to go into a funk.
This year has been especially hard because I started to go blind in January, had to stop driving in February, have no help and of course there aren't any services. Oh, I can read OK if I'm on top of it, but anything 6 inches away from my nose, forget it.
Florida might be the national test case for being monumentally stupid. I hope not, I still know and like quite a few people there and I fear for their safety.

(2,458 posts)& app. 20 with teachers @ the CU campus. "The Hill" is where they go. Or should I call it: Infection Hill? There's been lots of large gatherings. Authorities are trying to crack down on it. Love Beau's sarcasm here...

(3,992 posts)The scientists and statisticians are all telling us that cases are on the rise, and then a big wave is expected in the autumn.
Trump and DeSantis are apparently determined to make that happen.
The wife and I agree, and with great irony, the more open FL businesses become, the less likely we will be out there to patronize them.
As best we can, we're not going out.
I was going to take my Mom out for dinner next week for her birthday. I had in mind a nice restaurant operating at half capacity with outdoor tables and people in masks.
It would have been the first time I went out to eat in many months.
I am canceling these plans.
