In order to register to vote one has to show a valid ID when registering. I've done voter reg. many times and most people have drivers licenses as ID. Passports and state non-driver IDs can also be used.

The number of the license is recorded and the applicant signs the form which is then forwarded through the proper channels to the state's voter registrar.

In other words, a valid ID was already required to get registered so it shouldn't be required again to actually vote. All the poll worker has to do is have you sign in and check your signature with the one already on file. If there's a match, you get to vote.
