Why doesn't the government do more to enforce this rule (law?) just think of all the cash that could be flowing in.

Even before the Trump* regime, however, Republicans effectively crippled the ability of the IRS to enforce this rule.

It started with a Congressional reorganization of the IRS - I think it was in the early 2000's, but it might have been before that - whichby chance or by design removed the title within the IRS which was the only officer who had the power to initiate an investigation of a religiously exemp body, The IRS for a while did the best it could by utilizing officials with as close a title as they could get to start such investigations, and one case ended up in court, and the IRS was told that wan't good enough, and ordered it not to do any more investigations until it had fixed the problem.

In order for the problem to be fixed, the reorganization act had to be changed to give that power to someone whose title was in the reorganization act. Congress never did that.

Lois Lerner is one competent and capable official who was forced out of the IRS over this exact issue.

But watching him was an object lesson on conducting myself with dignity and accepting aspects of reality that perturb me.

My first visceral response to him was distaste for the sheer meanness of his attitude. Then, I could sense the depth of his fear.

As a supporter of religious liberty, I have no desire to hamper him and his followers from expressing their faith. If only they didn't seek to control the lives and decisions of other people in the pursuit of their beliefs.

I know that offends some, but I’ve been saying for years that these guys are setting the brand name. Many Christians may not like it, but Mr. Copeland, Jeffords, Falwell have formed my perception of what Christians are now.

As for religious liberty, they can practice what they want, but they can’t tell me they know Gods will anymore than the rest of us, and they can’t tell me that I shouldn’t think they mean prey when they are preaching.

To me it comes down to that there is no push back from other lesser known, Christian leaders. Right down to the pastors of smaller churches. Right from the start of the politicization of the Evangelical movement with Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson. No alternative leader spoke up and said...no. No other leader has come forward to denounce Trump and the big name pastors that do publicly support him.

It is watching this cult forming, and watching otherwise good meaning people, be so susceptible to a cult figure like Trump, that scares me away from them for good. Right down to my own sister. A quiet, shy, morally upright, very religious person. I am shocked at how well a cult works on people like evangelicals who are conditioned to accept authoritarians to dictate their lives for them. I will never again be a part of any organized church.

The blatant hypocrisy. If I am flipping stations on the radio, I will inevitably run into a Christian station with some sermon being preached. What I HEAR is how humble we must be, how good, how faithful to our wives and husbands, how all God's creatures are equal, how Jesus died for all of us, and we have to ask for His forgiveness and admit we are sinners etc etc etc....And on the next program they have another preacher praising Donald Trump as God's chosen One! Someone who rejects God, doesn't need forgiveness, can't name a verse, lies constantly, ridicules the disabled, cages children and loses their mothers. etc etc. They cannot even see their own hypocrisy even as they live it. I would never be a part of any religion, any organization, that was so susceptible to being manipulated like they have been and continue to be.

Many may recall dancing in spirit, speaking in tongues, slain in spirit where they fall to the ground, etc.

Then there's the evil spirit, I forgot the name for it, but it's a laughing or hilarity spirit. Here's something to add, I recall being taught two of these spirit types have rank! So here the preacher, reverend or whatever, is leading the mantra and I'm sure elders have done this before so they join in unison and before you know it, everyone's hoping to please the pastor or whatever, but this is a form of programming or bonding. Kinda cultish really!

Ask yourself... Would this bless the body of believers in attendance? I'd be a little freaked out like I was when I first heard speaking in tongues. Or, force them to act out this way in reverence or simply a chanting tradition where they simply think they are getting divine revelations to laugh out loud. You can hear by his forced laughs that it's fake! But people that attend Laughing Yoga say it makes them happy too so? That said, this was a freak show!

My wife and I left a very nice small church that we didn't realize was associated with this group. The pastors were African-American and were taken to a "conference" paid for by the Copelands. They came back telling the congregation they should only evaluate a candidate based on 2 things: abortion and gay marriage and said they should NOT look at a candidates race. This was in 2008.
It was Copeland's attempt to prevent the election of Obama. So I guess it is no wonder he's a bit off of his rocker, the church is losing it's influence.
