It is very clear to me that the republicans create a clay effigy in their own image and call it the left and democrats. Then they sling all the fecal matter they can at it over and over again and pour bags full of their own projections on us.

I often wondered why the exaggerations, posturing and falsehoods don't match up with what I observe on our side. This time around, it stands out like a sore thumb and it would be great if somebody drove that home and kept repeating it.

Conservatives ALWAYS project!

Observing how my own family behaves...I think it's behaviour stemming from narcissism, irresponsibility and immaturity.

My family is full of abusive alcoholics and their enablers...and they NEVER took any kind of responsibility for their actions and always have a scapegoat to blame for them. For example, my mother was rather lazy and dishonest, always lying about what was really going on, but would never acknowledge her own shortcomings...so of course I was the one that was lazy and dishonest, refusing to accept all the 'white' lies she told about the family situation and becoming the 'bad' one for refusing to be abused quietly.

It's behaviour that won't change easily, because it comes from a selfish, dishonest viewpoint. It takes major personal consequences for them to even think about change, and even then...

After all, if you always have someone to blame for your problems, you never have to change yourself. You just keep lying about others.

Yes, that was an appropriate anecdote and I am sure many of us can relate to it.

The tendency to create a shield like that may be a distorted version of self preservation for the sake of continuity, but at what cost?

I think we are seeing the tremendous costs in regards to what is happening in our society and the decay of democracy.

All that to preserve an illusion and avoid facing reality, which only becomes worse and makes reality more difficult for everyone to face. That's a dark, dismal self-creating vicious circle that creates a lot of suffering in order to benefit one person or group.

Layers of illusion on layers of illusion don't make the problems go away, it just exacerbates the damage and delays the reckoning. I don't expect them to get that, though.
