The Dakotas lead the world in COVID-19 deaths per capita

According to Kristi Noem, the high death rate is a sign of what a great job she is doing, because she is doing nothing to respond to COVID-19 and letting people exercise their Free-Dum.

South Dakota governor refuses to mandate masks despite record-breaking coronavirus spike

South Dakota is currently leading the U.S. in COVID-19 outbreaks, with a daily positivity rate of about 12.2 percent and hitting a record high of 1,821 new cases on Nov. 12 alone — both indicators of the rampant virus outbreak in the state.

Despite the severity of the outbreak, state leadership has still declined to implement a mandatory mask requirement. Instead, the state has “encouraged” South Dakotans to follow the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines and use a mask while in public.

Evidence of masks being effective at preventing COVID-19 transmission has steadily grown over the course of the pandemic, prompting the CDC to formally recommend wearing masks.

Still, Gov. Kirsti Noem (R) has not issued a mandatory mask order, and The Associated Press reports she has no intention to change course. Spokesperson Maggie Seidel told reporters that the public health protocols adopted by some states are broadly ineffective. “The facts are simple: mask mandates, harsh lockdowns, massive testing and contact tracing haven’t worked – in the United States or abroad,” Seidel reportedly wrote in an email.

And that it takes much more than a pretty face to govern a state. But they also could have just ask Alaska about the wonderful job that Sarah Palin had done there.

They will compare 849 deaths in South Dakota to 34,342 deaths in New York and think they are doing great. I know it’s not but especially people who don’t look closely at politics like we do.

That get repeated over and over, and they don’t notice when the predictions accusations and prophecy of their leaders fall flat, they don’t question and continue to repeat the last talking point that they heard.

And most read the headline. If they follow numbers, they don’t look beyond what they see. Per capita? A foreign concept. Sadly not kidding.

.... this is getting worse.
Trump exposed flaws in our system that honorable men would have never dreamed of challenging, and he nearly flipped our government on its head. There is a group of evil people out there somewhere that have been taken notes and are perfecting the Trump play book, and grooming the next pretty face celebrity populist that these people will worship and be the puppet of an evil regime that will end all of this.

She is looking to elevate her national profile for a future run for president.

It seems that overwhelming stupidity and a complete lack of self-awareness is a common thread that runs through the Republican Party.

With Fox News, plus the rise of even more extreme outlets like OANN and Newsmax, which push QAnon type conspiracies, Republicans tat cater to the crazy will have an advantage during the Republican primaries.

If the website you linking measures since the start of the pandemic, then it may be right, but it is not helpful in terms of understanding what is going on right now.

It is probably the very best source for these numbers.

And while a seven day rolling average will capture recent upticks and down ticks in numbers, I prefer the big picture.
