Wat happens when you remove that guy, that point in the center holding the balance ?

I believe it swings out of control & off kilter.

The role of the left - here or in any other democracy - is mainly to advocate, and introduce reforms. Not necessarily to govern.

Besides which, their proposals get much, much further - and are much more likely to endure - in a coalition with centrists, where centrists are behind the wheel.

Centrists usually have much more in common with the left, in most democracies, than with right-wingers - most of whom have become obsessed with bringing back 19th century-style governance.

If not 15th century.

Anyone on the left that forgets this threat, is only carrying water for the fascist right.

the Center seeks balance. The Right is always seeking Dominance.

And cruelty. Right-wingers love their cruelty.

I recall reading that there's a close correlation between child abuse, and growing up to be conservative - especially if another sibling is treated with favoritism.

With many exceptions, of course - but I don't doubt these experiences affect a person's political leanings as they grow up.
