(2,992 posts)I'm a birder. Hunters and birders are natural allies - both groups strongly support conservation measures that, ultimately, allow our sports/hobbies to continue.
We often want to conserve the same habitat because that's where the birds are. And that means we often co-occur, for the same reason.
We try to be mindful of each other, and we birders generally keep ourselves as visible as possible to avoid an accident. I've never had a firearm aimed at me by a hunter, but there have been some close calls.

(2,992 posts)This was the 1990's - I was in grad school at the time.
The city council meeting was live on the radio, and it went on and on with speaker after speaker complaining about their rights, or about the loss of revenue their establishment might suffer.
25 years later, and no one seems to remember this was even an issue.
