Folks are comparing notes, and the governor’s bull is adding up to diddly squat. It’s bad times in this state, and what matters is who is showing up to solve problems.

Masks work — he’s a craven fool for causing greater difficulty.

Texas's maskless Governor's decree, Wisconsin judge allowed slaughtering 20% of the Timber Wolf population in the state in 3 short days and Greene, from Georgia, are all nuts, insane.

The only fortunate news is that nearly all universities cancelled Spring Break this year to condense the semester into a shorter time frame. That should keep a lot of the students away from the beaches and being able to gather in general. However, we will probably see the results of this horrid policy by the end of the month and it will likely keep the hospitals busy throughout April.

I'll keep wearing my mask and I won't cut my hair until six weeks after being vaccinated or I have a job interview.

Most here in the Northeast that I'm familiar with closed down early, including mine. Last I knew, only essential workers were allowed on campus. And I do know a couple who has 2 kids away at college (both in PA), the younger one just in his first year, and both were sent home early on.

And I sure don't blame you, yikes! I figured that my chance to get vaccinated was a long way off according to when I last checked, but just last week several pharmacies in the area started offering the Moderna vaccine, so I actually got my first shot on Friday, scheduled for #2 at the end of the month! I can't express how relieved I am, but that doesn't mean I'm going to be changing my behavior one bit. Hang in there and stay safe!

I'm sure that some of the classes that require hands-on experience are also meeting. Most of the universities did require COVID tests upon returning to campus.

I can't imagine that they'd just shut down completely for an entire year. I do remember that starting last Spring, two women I knew who had returned to college were only doing online classes. My friend who was due to receive her Masters last May had no graduation, only got her diploma in the mail.

And that's the thing! Being there is the college experience, not to mention lab work and all the necessary equipment, performances for arts students, all the resources in the library, the list goes on. My college had a plan to have students live in pods, like a family, no visitors, but it looks like that didn't work out, no big surprise.

Glad to hear those that are open have canceled break!

Congrats on your 1st vaccine!

I got my 1st pfizer Friday, too, although, due to mismanagement of monumental proportions, I am not convinced it was a viable dose.

Are you in the CDC V Safe program for reporting post vax symptoms?

My friend who works in the hospital ER got the Pfizer vaccine as well a few weeks ago and she had no issues other than a sore arm - except for having to drive downstate to a major hospital to get it. That really sucks, we all need to be vaccinated as soon as possible.

And thanks! I did not know about that site for reporting reactions. I had no issues either other than a sore arm, but I have heard that reactions are more likely after the second shot. I saw my dentist last week the day before I was vaccinated and her assistant told me that she (my dentist) had a bad reaction to the second shot - which of course now makes me a little nervous. I would have liked to ask her more about it, but I didn't even find out that vaccines were available in my area or that I could get one until after I left the dentist. That was Thursday and I got my shot later Friday.

I posted about this mess:

https://www.democraticunderground.com/100215175809

Even Daily Beast had article about this cluster.

Tbh, I knew the odds of strict protocols for storage being followed were slim to none in this area, much as I hate to say it.

It is probably impossible to describe it, but I generally use the story of going through a drive up on my way to a meeting mid-afternoon & getting a "burger" that they were too lazy to put the meat on. Not that people can't make mistakes -- we all do, but this is a pervasive pattern of laziness and mean people. I didn't take the bun back -- no time. But, if I did, I can assure you they would have been extremely rude as if it were my fault somehow. (This is why isolation is no different for me, except that I wear a mask when forced to grocery shop.)

I had mild tenderness in my arm, too. Not looking forward to 2nd shot.

The V Safe program is great. A very brief survey daily. Requires a smart phone.

Sorry to hear your dentist had a bad reaction! Hopefully, she is OK!

I hope that you get to the bottom of this! That's one issue that hasn't been discussed, mishandling. I know that the Pfizer vaccine doesn't keep, think that's why my friend had to go to a major hospital to get hers since they had the refrigeration necessary. And she said they had a dose left that they needed to use so they gave it to a twenty-something girl who was there even though she wasn't "eligible" yet - but I don't care, I want everyone to get it!

And I had to check in with my phone when I got my shot, so that's not a problem. And at least my dentist is fine now, just saw her on Thursday. Though I wish I'd known at the time that I'd be getting mine the next day, but the opportunity came up unexpectedly and I just went for it!

20. No way to get the information

I've been reading every article about this mess, hunting for clues. It was even unclear which manufacturer's vaccines were involved until yesterday when I read Pfizer has now gotten involved.

Now they are saying expired dose info printed on card given after vaccine is a "clerical error." Right...

I'm glad you jumped on the opportunity & happy the 20-something got the extra dose!

Just yesterday, 3 sites issued a free-for-all announcement, offering hundreds of vaccines to anyone due to no shows yesterday. So glad they are getting shots in arms!

Makes me wonder who all those people were to book appts., then no show.

They've not even named the "medical professional" suspected of stealing vaccines. Must be a doctor related to billy bob or bubba.

Even medical care here is horrid.

When the country was shutting down 1 year ago, I had a medical appt. With an MD, who was only too thrilled to defy lockdown & go on and on about her plans to take her 2 kids to Disney. Mind boggling.

Everything that's going on right now is nerve wracking enough - and has been for the past year! Plus, your area doesn't have a monopoly on the foolish and stubborn. I saw an older gentleman who I know and like last week not long after I got my shot - so I had to tell him, I mentioned it to anyone, LOL. So I made a point of recommending getting vaccinated to this guy - who is in his mid 80s - and he told me that his daughter, who is a nurse(!) and works at the hospital, isn't getting vaccinated and he gets his medical advice from her...

A fairly high % of medical providers aren't taking vaccine!

Poor old guy. I hope he can stay safe!

The Tennessean newspaper had article yesterday that TN is moving forward in phases quickly, likely due to low vaccine turnout. I tried to ppst that, but hit paywall. 😏

First business to mask employees and "heavily encourage" customers.
First business to put the sign up prohibiting armed persons from entering

Also employees got raises and bonuses for working through this high risk period.

Here in New York, wearing a mask is required before entering any business - grocery, pharmacy, gas station, convenience store, even the auto dealership where I had my car inspected last week. It's become a way of life.
