(5,303 posts)His explanation is the best I've found and one I can 100% accept.
He studied the bible extensively for many years. According to him, none of the people and events in the bible never happened. Instead, it is a collection of metaphysical teachings representing states of mind, not historical people and events. Viewed in this way, the bible can be seen in a new light.

"Walmart is tempting me to steal from them
I haven't done it yet. But the temptation is getting stronger. Since our Walmart removed most of the checkout stations and replaced them with self-checkout, I feel like Walmart is forcing me to work for them. Because I'm forced to scan my own items, they're not paying wages to a checkout clerk. Even though I often used self checkout before, it pisses me off that now they're forcing me to.
If they're cutting their expenses by forcing me to scan my own groceries, why shouldn't I get some sort of compensation?
I mean, why can't I put a few smaller items in my bag without scanning them? Why shouldn't I be able to scan only three cans of tuna, when I'm buying four? What's wrong with touching the picture of cheaper apples, when the more expensive variety is on the scale.
If Walmart forces me to do their employees' work, isn't it only fair to force Walmart to give me compensation?
I've always considered myself an honest guy, but when Walmart steals my labor, I'm tempted to retaliate."
No one is forcing you to do anything, there are plenty of different stores, I think you have a problem.

(15,365 posts)that the pyramids at least were NOT built by slaves, but by paid laborers.
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2010/jan/11/great-pyramid-tombs-slaves-egypt
From the link:
Dieter Wildung, a former director of Berlin's Egyptian Museum, said it is "common knowledge in serious Egyptology" that the pyramid builders were not slaves. "The myth of the slaves building pyramids is only the stuff of tabloids and Hollywood," Wildung said. "The world simply could not believe the pyramids were build without oppression and forced labour, but out of loyalty to the pharaohs."

These workers graffiti can also be found all over the buildings they created. The marks, written in Egyptian, were hidden on blocks inside the pyramids and were never meant to be seen. They record the names of various work gangs, including the Drunkards of Menkaure and the Followers of the Powerful White Crown of Khufu. (Both gangs were named after the respective pharaohs of their day.) Other marks signify towns and regions in Egypt. A few seem to function as mascots that represent a division of workers, and they feature images of animals such as ibises.
Together, these hieroglyphics give archaeologists hints about where the workers came from, what their lives were like, and who they worked for. Nowhere have archaeologists found signs of slavery or foreign workers. Meanwhile, there is ample evidence of labor tax collection throughout ancient Egypt. Thats led some researchers to suggest workers might have rotated through tours of construction, like a form of national service. However, its also unclear if that means the workers were coerced.

Thanks so much for posting the video! I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I was able to visit Cairo twice (1999 & 2001) and took a Nile cruise from Luxor to Aswan on the first visit. What an absolutely amazing country Egypt is! It is appalling that the country today is so ill-served by its leaders. The people I met there were lovely and I have worked with excellent Egyptian colleagues.
And what a load of Bible-based crock Hollywood and the US M$M have perpetuated about the Pharoahs, Egypt and the Middle East in general!

(102,188 posts)Ancient Egypt is a major fascination for me and I've returned to the pyramids several times. I too found the people very welcoming and a couple of decades ago, I felt confident in traveling by myself, even as a female with only minimal Arabic. Locals never failed to help me out. I would not then nor would I now travel with a large group of Americans or Ex-pats from UK/elsewhere because they can be targeted. Then again, so too are certain groups in the US.
