'Difficult' Road Establishing Commission To Investigate Jan. 6th Attack - MSNBC

The House has struck a deal on a commission to investigate the Capitol insurrection, with vote expected next week. Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, Rep. Bennie Thompson joins Ali Velshi to discuss the laborious road to get to this point and what he hopes will come of the commission. “We are a better country than this and this commission is one of those ways to show how we can improve who we are as America . 1. I'm thinking those not wanting an investigation have something to hide

They had organized groups show up prepared to storm the Capitol and stop democracy and we have law makers that can't decide if that needs a full investigation? There's reason they don't want an investigation.

2. Well, we know that some of them were complicit

And I'd take an especially close look at those who keep insisting that the violent insurrections we saw on video were behaving like "ordinary tourists."

3. Yeah, if they thought that was a normal tourist day

maybe they're not fit for office. We need people in Congress that know what they are talking about, and know the difference between a riot where they had to barricade the doors and a normal tourist day. That isn't even good gaslighting it's so stupid.

4. And, with the pandemic, were tourists even welcome at that time?

But I agree, we've seen the explicit, violent, damaging video footage. People were maimed and died. How anyone could possibly say this, let alone believe it, totally defies reality.

5. I think they should be charged for some kind conspiracy to defraud the country

Their lies are so obvious, yet coordinated, as they are lying to America as a political party, not all republicans of course, but many.

6. The thing is, lying by officials has become "normalized," that was the former guy's normal behavior

I know that there was a record of the number of lies he told, sometimes contradicting himself in the same sentence, and it numbered in the tens of thousands. And it irritated me even more when I remember after President Carter swore to always tell the truth as president, the media was all over any statement he made, trying to catch him in any hint of untruth.

Previously, any lying official would swiftly lose any support they had, but twisting the truth or just blatantly telling obvious whoppers has become practically routine after the behavior of the previous administration. I agree that it's long past time to crack down on these liars, but, as with the example of Liz Cheney, lying has become towing the Republican party line...

7. I wouldn't expect much more

than what the "Mueller" investigation produced, much the same as the "Warren" report so many years ago.
