(4,291 posts)6. Case in point: Dennis Miller
Years before I cut cable, I'd tune into some of the content that HBO offered, but I'd avoid the Dennis Miller show because he just wasn't funny any more. When he was on Saturday Night Live, he was a little big more bearable, but that wore out quickly once he set out on his own.
From Wikipedia:
Beginning in 1994, Miller hosted Dennis Miller Live, a half-hour talk show on HBO. The show's theme song was the Tears for Fears hit "Everybody Wants to Rule the World", and included a snippet of the song "Civilized" by the Rollins Band. The show was taped at CBS Television City on the same stage where The Price Is Right is taped. It utilized a small set and sparse lighting, and there was no band. It comprised mainly Miller, speaking to the largely-unseen studio audience, on a darkened stage.
...
Miller and his writing staff won five Emmy Awards during the show's run, which aired 215 episodes over nine years. HBO cancelled the show in 2002.

This show was worst than the Half Hour News Hour which is saying a great deal

Greg Gutfeld's new Fox News show was expanded briefly to weeknights but according to reporter Aaron Rupar, it disappeared Tuesday night. In Anthony Scaramucci time, that's just half a "Scaramucci," he remarked.
The former White House communications director spent just 11 days on the job. Former President Donald Trump was so infamous for his hiring and firing that Scaramucci became a unit of measure by which employment under Trump was calculated.
Gutfeld was preempted by former Trumpster Larry Kudlow, who infamously screamed at Dr. Anthony Fauci for disagreeing hydroxychloroquine was a cure for COVID-19. Fauci ultimately was proved right, and Kudlow got a Fox News show.
The show from Gutfeld was an attempt to craft humor over liberal policies or progressive statements, but it has frequently fallen flat with the audience.

Again, this show was not funny and is the second time that Fox News tried to launch a comedy show. The first attempt-The Half Hour News Hour was really bad

.....wingnuts took offense. So the the paper moved the comic strip to the editorial page and added "Mallard Fillmore" as a conservative counterpoint to Garry Trudeau's work. Every day was a lesson in what was funny and what truly wasn't.
