If they have MAGA, Trump, or what I like to call "America porn" imagery (guns, bald eagles, flags, torn flags, ripped up constitution, etc) all over their clothing / houses / vehicles, you can almost instantly tell they're going to be toxic.

By what are they measuring "strength"? If strength means having a complete lack of compassion and honesty, then Trump wins, hands down. If being unable to listen to others, and then adjusting your decisions on factual data, is strength, then Trump wins, hands down.

If strength means having the will to do the right thing, even in the face of insurmountable odds, Trump gets his ass kicked three ways to Sunday.

So the "strength" question is dubious, at best.

though that figure was from 2017, before the world saw what a total disaster he was.

Edit to add that in 2017, 72% of those polled also thought Trump was dangerous. Rather peculiar - some people equate danger with strength?

Sadly, it's not uncommon in 3rd world countries - that have only been democracies since the 1980s or so - to find (some) people who miss the earlier dictatorship.

And when you dig a little deeper, the reason is almost always the same: "General So-and-So wasn't a afraid to break a few skulls."

What they miss that the former dictator wasn't shy about hurting people they hate.

These same types saw the same qualities in Trump.

Right-wing authoritarians can be very appealing to people in countries where crime rates are high - despite that fact that right-wing regimes don't bring crime rates down either.

But they are good at making voters (especially in the middle class) feel that "something is being done" about crime - i.e. that heads are getting bashed in.

When people are mugged (or worse), most just want revenge. Right-wing demagogues thrive on that.

You might recall the old joke in New York in the '70s and '80s that asked: "What's the difference between a conservative and a liberal?"

"A conservative is a liberal who's been mugged at least twice."

Right-wingers don't do anything about crime, really - but they know how to thrive on it.

I've known people like that. Being a liberal was very cool until they became comfortable home owners and didn't want the unwashed masses living in their neighborhood. Then it was, "Why can't they pull themselves up like I did? I never needed any government handouts." It was easier to be compassionate when the "poor and needy" were way over there someplace, not in our backyard.

Conservatism is largely based on fear, insecurity, and greed.

Right-wing "kill'em-all" talk sounds good to many voters (especially in crime-ridden countries) - until the leaders get out of control and begin going after anyone and everyone.

A little like a snake eating its own tail.

It just seems like there are so many Trumpers because they make so much noise.

Someone told me that trump was going to run in 2024. I replied that that's what we want because we know we can beat him. He couldn't even muster more votes than Hillary, and people hate Hillary.
