A new report suggests that current and former members of the Proud Boys are trying to run for local offices around the country after the media exposed them on the national level. This is a strategy that many extremists have tried to pull off in the past, some of them successfully, as it allows them to build up recognition while slowly injecting their extremist ideologies into one locale at a time. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains what's happening.

This is the basic definition of Fascism. As defined by Benito Mussolini, the originator of the term. Just read what Mussolini wrote. My excellent High School civics and history teachers taught us this. Thank you, teachers!

(205,109 posts)I just watched a repeat of Frontline - on the insurrection. Right, "tourists" always visit the Capitol armed with guns and lethal sprays, crush and kill people and cause thousands worth of damage! And many of those "Proud Boys" were among the rioters...

In the late 1980s at a statewide meeting of new school board members, one of the breakout sessions dealt with this push to infiltrate local elected bodies to force changes THEY wanted. They seem to have the battlefield approach. If you have to destroy the village to save the village that is ok.
It detailed how an organized plan was to force changes in the country by FIRST taking over school boards, city councils, and other elected offices.
I believe you can draw a straight line from this plan to the tea party infiltrating the US Congress and the start of disruption of the workings of the legislated branch of our government. And yes the rise of TFG and his followers.

(1,000 posts)The Tea Party started as an astroturf campaign, didn't take long to catch fire, especially with the Talibangelicals who understood that approach all too well. Amazing how "serving God" so often goes hand in hand with serving themselves in this life.
Funny thing about "faith." Christianity started as resistance to the power of Rome, when Christianity became large enough to be a threat to Rome, and Rome was on the decline, Justinian and Theodora co-opted Christianity. And spread their faith through out the world. Of course, TFG does not have enough of a basis in history to go that far back, according to the first ex he only read one book, Mein Kampf, and like the con he is, he understood the manipulation.
