Was the war in Afghanistan worth fighting? 3 veterans weigh in - PBS NewsHour

Many countries have closed or scaled back operations at consulates in Afghanistan as the Taliban have scored territorial gains since mid-April, when the U.S. announced its military withdrawal. How does the war in Afghanistan — America's longest war — look to the soldiers that were deployed there, and what do they think of the withdrawal? Three veterans share their experiences with Nick Schifrin.

Afghanistan is going to be what it has always been and they're not going to let us or the Russians or anyone else make their rules.

I fully expect them to try to go back to the 1200s, although the men will have a great old time using all the trucks and other vehicles we left behind, but I doubt they will stay there. We still won't like whatever they become.

One thing they said was absolutely true, once the bases had been wrecked and bin Laden fed to the fishes, our job there was done. We should have left many years ago.
