TX Dems Force GOP To Walk Back 'Horrendous' Provision To Overturn Elections - The Last Word - MSNBC

Texas GOP claim they don’t know who added what they now denounce as a “horrendous” provision making it easier to overturn elections. Texas State Rep. Julie Johnson says Senate GOP “slid it in at the last minute” trying to catch Democrats off guard, but “we didn’t let it happen.” Texas State Rep. John Bucy III said Democrats gained “multiple wins” after their walkout forced GOP to walk back several bad provisions and vow to continue the fight for voting rights. Aired on 06/07/2021.

This bill had passed the Texas senate and would have become law but for the courageous actions of Texas house Democrats. One provision on the gutting of Souls to the Polls is now being claimed to be a type and the GOP is also going to drop the crazy provision that would allow a state court judge to void an election without proof of sufficient fraudulent votes to change result.

Sunlight is the best disinfectant that this bill was thrown together at the end and no one had a chance to amend or deal with some truly crazy provision

The provision to allow judges to overturn election was not in either the House or Senate bills and no one will admit how this provsion made it into the Texas bill

If not for the courage of the Democrats taking action and continuing to speak up, voting would be negated in Texas.

That is damned poetic, lol

" One provision on the gutting of Souls to the Polls is now being claimed to be a type"

But seriously, glad to hear about the Texas GOP backing down on the worst provisions of their proposed law...

I can't think of anything more likely to start a shooting civil war in this country, than states setting aside the results of their votes, and legislatures "choosing" whom they want to win, particularly in the presidential election.

If that were to happen in one or several states, resulting in the overturning of an election re-electing our great President Joe Biden, for instance-- I would be tempted to resurrect the old TV western, "Have Gun, Will Travel".

I don't advocate violence, but if they take away my vote and the votes of every other Democrat-- I am not sure what I would do.

There's an old saying--- "the ballot or the bullet".

I can even understand the feelings of those on the right, who stormed the capitol on January 6th-- except they did so based upon "the big lie", while ignoring the overwhelming lack of evidence that there was any fraud in the 2020 election, and the statements of many Republican election officials to the same effect, and ignoring the 60 out of 61 court decisions that Trump lost due to lack of evidence, many decided by Republican-appointed and Trump appointed judges...

They seemed to believe in Trump so much, that they could not possibly conceive that he could lose-- despite the fact that he didn't win a majority of the vote in 2016, either, and never had approval ratings of 50 percent throughout his entire term...

If Republican state legislatures try to reverse election results that the Democrats have clearly won, that will be another matter entirely. Maybe Texas is stepping back from the brink of legalizing that particular exercise of "election fraud".
