3. Ohhh man, I was involved in a similar incident a couple of years ago...

It was just after sunset and I was walking along El Camino Real and passed an Asian lady who was on her phone, walking in the opposite direction. Her unleashed pug was lagging behind, nosing around a tree. Pug looked up at me (I was then between him and the lady) and flipped out and ran pad-pad-pad-pad-pad away from both of us. I called out to the lady and she called to the pug, but the pug wasn't havin' it and when he reached the crosswalk (!!) he ran across six lanes of evening traffic. Thankfully, everyone stopped to let the pug (and the lady) across; I couldn't follow for fear of making the pug panic further.

I never learned the outcome. It still bothers me to this day.

Nothing justifies what the ratbag in the OP video did, but I WISH EVERYONE WOULD LEASH THEIR DAMN DOG

This vile individual was just looking for trouble and is likely miserable to everyone in any possible situation - especially since she will rarely get what she wants, just succeeds in pissing any and everyone off.

5. I hate when people don't have their dogs on a leash -- no matter how "well-trained" the animal . . .

It only takes a moment for a dog to dart into traffic, or to be snatched by a coyote. And loose dogs around my animals makes them nervous. My dogs feel they're at a disadvantage, since they're tethered and the other dog is free to circle around. I'm quick to warn these transgressors that I can't guarantee how my dogs will react to an unleashed dog, and I ask them to control their animal.

Yeah, so people who don't leash their dog are just bad neighbors, that's all, and irresponsible dog owners. I call them out for it, and it has nothing to do with what they are; it's a question of what they're doing.

Sorry this couple had such a bizarre encounter with a certified nitwit. She'd have had a beef with them, it seems, for simply walking about. She did, in fact. In this case the dog was merely a pretense for the attack.

Doesn't excuse their reckless behavior however.

7. My dog obeyed every command I gave him

My dog obeyed everything I said while he was wearing his harness and was on a leash. Once he was unleashed and his harness was off he was his own boss. There's no way I ever would have taken him out of my house or my fenced yard without being leashed.

So, yeah, I do agree with you. This lady is a horrible person, but the dog's owners should have their dog on a leash. If I saw them on a street, I'd keep my mouth shut because I mind my own business, but I hope they don't learn a painful lesson.

I've lived in my neighborhood for 17 years, and there's a couple who walk the neighborhood with their huge dogs never on leashes. Lots of times I've seen one or the other dog go too far away from the owners, but the owners are apparently stuck in the mindset that their dogs will always listen. Sure, they will. Until that one day when they don't.

20. Mine had no idea what a leash was until we got him

He was at least 7 1/2 when we got him and was a guard dog before he came to our house. He was pretty aggressive and I was afraid of him. One day I just decided that I wasn't going to live like that and I got out the harness and leash from a previous dog and put it on him, loaded him up in my van and took him to the park. The first day we didn't move a very far distance. I kept him on a short leash and we'd have a battle of the wills, with him pulling and me standing my ground with my back to him until he realized he had to go my way. Within just a couple of days he was doing whatever I told him to do. He soon turned into the best walker, following every command I gave him. It was our routine to go to the park for an hour every morning for our walk, which eventually turned into a walk/run.

He was really a pretty good dog for me, but wouldn't listen much to the then-husband because the then-husband wanted to be his friend instead of the alpha.

A real solidifier of who was the alpha at the park happened one day when two little unleashed dogs came running up to us. I'd seen this guy with his unleashed dogs prior to that, but they never were too close to us. I'm sure they wanted to play, but my dog wasn't having it. I picked him up by the harness so his front legs were off the ground and it basically incapacitated him (but didn't hurt him). He just gave me sort of a "WOW" look.

The next day I again saw the owner of the two little dogs at the park and we went close enough to talk to the guy. This time his dogs were on leashes. I told him, "Your dogs were almost my dog's lunch yesterday." Maybe he thought I was going to apologize, but the bottom line is that I had control of my dog. He didn't have control of his. We never saw them at the park again after that, so either they changed their walking time or found another place to walk.

ON the one hand, this woman is truly vile. But on the other hand, as a long-time NYC resident, I have very little patience for people who have their dogs off leash outside of a park.
