Michael Pollan, Author of "This Is Your Mind on Plants" | Amanpour and Company, July 19, 2021. Amanpour & Co. Even with the boom in legal cannabis, there were still more than one million marijuana arrests across the U.S. in 2019.

In his new book, "This Is Your Mind on Plants," author Michael Pollan challenges the way we think about all drugs, from psychedelics and opioids to the caffeine in tea and coffee. Pollan speaks with Walter Isaacson about the effects of plant-based drugs on our behavior. Originally aired on July 19, 2021.

- Fascinating discussion of various plant- based drugs, the US war on drugs and the role of coffee and caffeine in increasing worker productivity during the Industrial Revolution.

His comments on plant-based psychedelics was really interesting. How they can fight many mental health issues such as PTSD, schizophrenia, depression. If phrma could make money off of these (make the prescription only) then we'd see them acceptable.

treatment for some conditions, and acceptance. Years ago I saw a program about oxycodone addiction, a man who had tried and failed 2 or 3 conventional rehab programs. At the end of the road, he was at a new center using psychedelics. I didn't watch the end to see the results, but it's something to be explored much more. Plants rock!
