Some Health Care Workers Choosing Not To Get Covid Vaccine - NBC News

Across the country, about 1 in 4 health care workers still aren’t vaccinated against Covid-19. NBC News’ Gabe Gutierrez speaks with a group of them in North Carolina to find out why. Aired on 07/29/2021.

2. This got to me because of a conversation I had that I've posted about before on DU

There's an elderly gentleman (mid 80s) who I see at local meetings, he's well spoken and seems healthy and we're friendly. When I first got vaccinated, I was excited and relieved and told people about it. And this gentleman said that he's not getting the vaccine because his daughter is a nurse and he gets his medical advice from her. *sigh*

And when the subject came up more recently, he said that if they required those who worked at the local hospital get the vaccine, she'd quit her job! Now I have 2 friends who work at that hospital, one with psych patients in the ER and the other in the office - and they were the first I knew who got vaccinated, though they had to drive downstate to a major hospital to get the Pfizer. This was in January and I envied them.

And it's not like there aren't Covid cases at that hospital. The local paper always reports cases and breakouts on the front page and my (mainly rural) New York county leads the state in positive tests and there have been two more Covid deaths here within the week.

3. Any health care worker who won't get vaccinated needs to be fired.

Immediately. Putting aside the stupidity, you just can't have unvaccinated people tending to vulnerable populations. It's a no-brainer.

Fire them.

It's not "experimental" if more than half of the country is fully vaccinated. And health care workers are more vulnerable than the rest of us. I have 2 friends who work in the local hospital. They were the first I knew to get the vaccine, back in January, even though they had to drive downstate to a major hospital to get the Pfizer. I envied them. And we do have Covid cases at that hospital, just this week the local paper reported there are 36 currently in the county.

7. That, plus the fact that the mRNA vaccines have been around since the '90s.

If not a little earlier because they were intended to be used against the AIDS virus. The problem is that AIDS mutates too fast.

COVID-19 presented the best opportunity to actually use those vaccines for the first time given how contagious it is and how widespread the pandemic became, but they're not new.

Who isn’t vaccinated. They are a disgrace to the nursing profession and need to go find something else to do!!

The hospital in Houston did the right thing! Get vaccinated or leave..and it held up in court

Who refuses to get vaccinated. I tried to talk her into it but she refuses. I've basically cut off contact with her. I just can't respect her decision to put others at risk.

8. It makes no sense to me, either, since they are the most likely to be exposed

And, with a medical background, should be more aware of the dangers than the rest of us.

I identified with this video for a reason I posted on another thread. I know an older gentleman (mid 80s) who I see at local meetings. When I finally got vaccinated - at the first chance available to me - I mentioned it to people since I was excited and relieved. And this older gentleman - who must have had the opportunity early on - said he wasn't getting vaccinated because his daughter is a nurse and she's not getting vaccinated and he gets his medical advice from her!

Needless to say, I was pretty shocked to hear that. And he's also said that if they require vaccinations at the local hospital, she'd quit her job! Now I know that they currently have active Covid cases at that hospital, the local paper reports every case - and death - in the county on the front page.

12. I Couldn't Believe What I Was Watching

when I saw this on the Nightly News.

These people are so damn dumb, I wouldn't trust them to take my temperature, let alone perform or even oversee a minor medical procedure.

I hate to say this, but can ANYONE imagine graduates of Chinese nursing or medical schools uttering such non-science-based gibberish?

I hope this is not evidence of America's decline.

I know that there are people who are uninformed on the virus, but you wouldn't expect it in front line health care workers. I wanted to watch this since I've been disturbed about an exchange I had with an older gentleman (mid 80s) who I see at local meetings. When I was finally able to get vaccinated, I was relieved and grateful and I told people. And this older man, with whom I've always been friendly, said that he wasn't getting vaccinated because his daughter is a nurse and she's not getting vaccinated - and he gets his medical advice from her. I still do not understand it.

They should be fired! They have access to sick patients working in healthcare and they could infect someone! Like me! These people are idiots and a disgrace to the medical field.

Get the vaccine or get another job.

I won't go to any healthcare facility where the staff are not vaccinated (so far have changed dentists).
