...so the U.S. should double down and try to aid Afghanistan.
What was funny was that John Oliver seemed to be aware of the inconsistency of what he was saying, by saying that "I am not saying that the U.S. should reverse its withdrawal and stay in Afghanistan indefinitely," then he turned around and argued for an open ended presence in Afghanistan.
The main thing I agreed with him is that the U.S. should welcome and aid Afghanistan refugees, but that is still not a reason not to proceed with the withdrawal.
