BLINKEN on the challenges of getting remaining Americans out of Afghanistan:
- We've had many ppl identify as citizens who are not
- Some may want to stay
- Some are evaluating by the hour
- Some hold dual-citizenship and are in the process of deciding to stay or go
- Some change their mind/want to go, then want to stay
Tony Blinken says that starting Aug 14, they estimated roughly 6k Americans wanted to leave Afghanistan. They have evacuated 4,500 so far and been in direct contact with about 500 to give instructions to get to airport. Theyre aggressively reaching out" to the remaining 1k.
