He's so used to bullying and getting his own way that he can manage to convince himself - of whatever he wants to be true. And I certainly agree with you, he has no feelings for other people, his wishes are the only ones that count.
And he was not only the least qualified candidate ever to put his hat in the ring, I still believe that he never wanted the job - and he didn't do it. After all his previous "business ventures" failed, he was desperate for another way to make money - and grifting for campaign funds filled the bill. And of course he didn't "win," but an oddity in the American electoral system gave him the job. And he discovered that he liked grifting money this way, he got the attention he needed so he continued to hold "campaign rallies" for 4+ years, while the state of the country - in the middle of a pandemic he ignored - went to hell.

You might think that, but you'd be wrong. They know how petty and vindictive he is, so they go right along with his delusional thinking. They don't want to jeopardize any inheritance they might have coming when he finally dies, so they just humor the mentally ill old fool. Which makes them as cold and uncaring about the people of this country as he is.
The entire family - with the exception being Mary - are self centered, thoughtless misanthropes without any redeeming characteristics whatsoever.
How's everything on the eastern side of the state, Rhiannon? Over here in "the wild west" we're already in the autumn "blah" season, with no sunshine, cold temperatures, and the general malaise associated with the approaching winter. I wish winter would hurry up, because it feels like I'm living inside a ping-pong ball. Just GRAY, everywhere.
