(9,933 posts)Ron Paul and all those pushing States Rights are really just a bunch of bigoted jerks trying to appeal to bigoted voters in the south who romanticize the civil war.

(7,865 posts)Ron Paul utterly failed to historically connect his points or justify in any of his arguments. He failed to explain why slavery was eliminated in other countries. He failed to explain the causes of the civil war with any rational thought. He failed to take into account Lincoln's true and idealistic embrace of the free soil movements that sought to garauntee everyone with the ability to farm should they choose; beliefs he had held long before before pursuing the presidency.
Instead Ron Paul placates the idiocy and historical ignorance of the neo-confederates as he attemts to igratiate himself to them in order to get their votes. It is bad enough that for a long time the myth of the civil war being about state rights was taught in public schools to placate racists and southern historical revisionists. Now Ron Paul wants to reinvigorate that mythology.
What a fool.

(17,656 posts)If people listen to this ignorant jackass' speech, they will hear him mention that he thinks the phrase "the consent of the governed" is one of the most important phrases in the Constitution of the United States.
However, that phrase is not in the Constitution.
It's in the Declaration of Independence.
I find it hard to believe that someone who has served for so long in the Congress of the United States doesn't know that.
I find it hard to believe that someone who has served for so long in the Congress of the United States doesnt know what the oath that he took when he was sworn in to office, to uphold the Constitution, actually refers to.
It doesn't mean to uphold the Declaration of Independence.
The rest of his rant is just outrageous revisionist history.
Representative Ron Paul is clearly a racist, and he doesn't intend to ever change.
