TYT: Traitors? Mississippi Trying to Skip Federal Law

"A pair of Republican lawmakers in Mississippi have proposed a bill to keep the federal government in its place, and laying out a plan to create a Joint Legislative Committee on the Neutralization of Federal Law, which would — well maybe you can already start to guess what the committee would do.

The bill, known as the Mississippi Balance of Powers Act, was authored by state Rep. Gary Chism (R), chairman of the House Insurance Committee, and Rep. Jeff Smith (R), chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee. Earlier this week, the bill was referred to the House Constitution Committee."*

3. Seems to me they tried the same thing about 50 years ago.

In 1962 Mississippi decided that it didn't have to obey the 5th circuit and admit James Meridith to Ole Miss. JFK responded by Federalizing the Mississippi National Guard and sending them to Oxford where they informed the state, in no uncertain terms, that Federal Law will trump State law. End of Story. I suspect that the current occupant of the White House wouldn't have too much trouble reminding them of that point if necessary.

Seems to me the South tried something of the same sort about 150 years ago as well, with roughly the same outcome, only that time it was a lot messier.
