(11,870 posts)Yellow Sale sign on the shelf. Can of something that sells for $1.08 on sale for $1. Shelf is bare as all product was gone.

(4,657 posts)Regular price? $1.69. Those two cents sounded bigger.
In the 1970's I bought two pralines at Aunt Sally's in the French Quarter. The sign said ten cents each or two for a quarter, so I plunked down a quarter and left.
Whenever I start thinking that I'm smarter than everybody else, a little voice reminds me of that day.

(15,805 posts)Its not just limited to unit pricing, but consumers also need to be wary of weights or sizing. All too often I see things like a larger can that actually costs more than two smaller cans. In the produce department the prepackaged bags of onions, oranges, or tomatoes, are often more expensive than buying them loose and putting them in a bag yourself.

(60,010 posts)I will look at a item's price on the page, say a bottle of oil, for example, which is priced reasonable at 5.00.
Then on the same page, other sellers are featured, some of whom are asking 100.00 a bottle.
I often wonder if those are real people. Stupid, yes....but real?
