The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI used to be one of the craziest people you'd ever run across.
Just the look in my eye could clear a room full of serial killers. Yeah, just like that.
Actually, that's probably not a huge exaggeration.
But you know what happened? I went sane. Yeah, go figure.
Now it looks to me as if I'm the last sane person in America. The whole country is just totally bonkers right now.

(14,488 posts)I had some crazy-ass years too, but finally got over it at around 45.
We're all just hoping this does not become the new "normal", LOL.

(10,418 posts)But, you know, I think that craziness was here all along and it was just sailing along under this veneer of sanity in America. As I go along in my daily routine nothing looks like it's changed too much outwardly in my day to day life, except things seem like they are quieter. People have withdrawn. Maybe they have taken up the art of introspection. Maybe they are so troubled and confused that they are just shutting down and kind of going to sleep even though they outwardly appear to be doing their normal things. People just aren't totally here right now.
But when they go home and they shut out the outside world and they log on, here comes the crazy. We just can't talk about it openly for the most part yet. But it's coming. Yep.
It's not going to stop if Trump has to resign. That will be a great improvement and it might save a bunch of people on the Korean peninsula, but this craziness is not going to be over- not at all. And as more people like me start to put everything together, a wildly different kind of America might soon be coming. Business as usual is over. It's probably not coming back.
Those white power guys who are scaring the shit out of everyone ain't nothing. They make a lot of noise and have some visibility, but in reality they are very few in numbers- at least the true crazies who get out and fly the Nazi flags and all that shit. Americans being afraid of them is kind of like an elephant being afraid of a mouse. These guys don't really know how to organize and get it together either. They are all just as stupid as they appear, even their front men.
But there is another force out here that's starting to come together although still in it's infancy. And that force will be one that could bring true change and real reform to America. Both Republicans and Democrats high up in the power structure are trying hard to defeat it right now, but they likely have a really tough battle ahead of them- one that might mean the end of both establishment parties.
I know this is the lounge, but maybe this is just the right place to put this. It will hang around a lot longer here. I've been trying to tell people this for the last week in general discussion, but nobody is taking any of it seriously. Except for maybe one guy. One wealthy, well connected DUer might be taking this kind of stuff seriously right now. Maybe. It might have reached him. But he'll probably end up just shooting himself in the foot like so many powerful, rich people are doing right now- both the clueless and the aware. They just keep running maniacally straight for that one thousand foot cliff despite the dire warnings of rumbling out here in ordinary America like what you see here in the post. And despite the overwhelming and catastrophic warnings coming from Mother Nature. Well, I'm not going to follow them over that cliff. You guys can if you want to, but I hope you don't.

(91 posts)Climate change is so far past the tipping-point, Jesus could be elected president and would find himself helpless. What can a US president do about anthrax released from melting permafrost in the Arctic? Anthrax is only one, tiny side effect of warming in a long, long, long civilization as we know it destroyers list. Is that on your mind? It's on mine.
Is it the idea of Malthus laughing in his grave as we prove population will always overtake resources? That's definitely on my mind.
Perhaps you are considering the alien world rapidly being created in a Techno Revolution that is putting social upheaval caused by the Industrial Revolution to shame? Scary but, oh, so interesting. I think a lot about needing to give the Borg a friendlier public image.
Tell us more of your concerns.
