Oh boy........Jim Beam has a new hashtag, #BoycottBeam.

What has the world come to when even bourbon gets caught up in politics?

(Actually, don't answer that.)

Over the weekend, bourbon brand Jim Beam got dragged into the fight over women's rights after its spokeswoman, actress Mila Kunis, revealed that she's been sending monthly donations to Planned Parenthood in Vice President Mike Pence's name.

See, Kunis doesn't agree with Pence's non-wavering stance against abortion rights.

And as a guest on TBS's "Conan," she told host Conan O'Brien that she chose to voice her disagreement by adding his name to a list of reoccurring donations made to the women's health care provider.

"I don't look at it as a prank, I look at it just as, I strongly disagree [with him], and this is my little way of showing it," Kunis said, according to The Hill.

Pence supporters and abortion opponents did not take kindly to Kunis's shenanigans.

And they made their disagreements known by starting a #BoycottBeam campaign on Twitter.

All the more for us!

Now, maybe if we can get them to boycott avocados somehow, or coffee or chocolate, the prices might go down!

maybe I'll have hubby pick up the ingredients today.

I'm not a Whiskey drinker normally, not much of a drinker in general really, but I used to love that one eons ago so I have no problem with #SupportBeam.

So... what other whiskey based drinks are good?

Recipe (per drink):
1 jigger of bourbon
1 jigger of Rosso (sweet) vermouth
1 little dash of bitters
Garnish with a maraschino cherry (one with a stem, please)

Mix the booze and bitters in a tall pitcher of ice. Stir until thoroughly chilled. Never, ever shake. Strain off into a wide stem glass. Add garnish.

The secret: Like a martini (and Klingon revenge), the colder it's served, the better.

Note: a jigger is 1 1/2 oz. I make mine using 2 oz measure.

And add the vermouth!! If one doesn't, one might as well just chug the bourbon straight out of the bottle, which these days if one did I can sympathize. However, a Manhattan is a civilized drink... (At least through the first couple of them.)

Sköl

It's a very nice drink.

That has always been my father's drink of choice. When I was little I loved that he'd give me the cherry from it.

Thanks for the lovely memory jog.

So the maraschino cherry garnish is appropriate. There's even a "dirty Manhattan" which has a dash of maraschino cherry juice (from the jar) to add a bit more sweetness.

Warning: It is still equally potent. But boy do they go down easy.

hic!

I'm definitely going to try that version and smooth is very good.

Thanks for the great suggestions BTW.
