Who do you think is #1?
I won't spoil it in case you'd prefer to click on the link and discover it for yourself. But I will reveal that West Virginia bears the distinction of coming in last!

(1,663 posts)While I've enjoyed the cuisines here in southern California, I can not agree that it beat out Louisiana! They have a terrific mix of mom and pop fusion delicacies at affordable prices. The very talented chefs of CA start off at a disadvantage because of the differing price points for the same quality food. Back home, I can get fresh boiled crab, handmade fresh sausages or pick out my live fish for pennies on the dollar, comparatively speaking. Great list!

(6,133 posts)Because I was brought up in the northeast. It is better. But I have come to love other places, especially California. The Midwest is a bust for me. Maybe since the 90s somethings changed.
I prefer the coasts, including the best seafood in my life...Georgia.
Not New, just the original.

(9,265 posts)My cousin, from CT (way further down the list) would disagree. When he visits our fair state he loads up on ring baloney, shoo-fly pie, sticky buns, scrapple, Martin's potato chips, Lebanon baloney, etc. Says our state motto should be "Eat Your Way Through Pennsylvania." I'll have to send his suggestion to Gov. Wolf as I think we have yet another insipid state motto in the works.

(34,195 posts)I grew up in western PA and now, at 71, I'd sure love me some ring baloney.
My dad used to slice it and eat it on saltine crackers.
The closest I can find here in Albuquerque, NM is a 5 pound 'log' of baloney, which I have not tried.

I have eaten at the Pitchfork Fondue in Pinedale Wy though so I think I get some street cred

(34,195 posts)I suspect some folks sat around, drinking beer, and pulled state names out of a hat.
I wonder how a true survey would rank the food in states?
I've grew up in PA, and have lived/worked from Maine to Florida to California
and points in between,
and am now retired in New Mexico.
There's good food in many states, but California as #1?
No way.
Just give me some good home cooking, and I'll put PA as #1.
