I saw it last night and really liked it, a lot more then the latest Thor movie. I like the chemistry of the actors. There is a rumor that they might recast Batman with Jake Gyllenhall in the future which I think might be a good choice. Of all the actors, Ben Affleck was my least favorite of the cast. Ezra Miller as the Flash was a breath of fresh air. Jason Mamoa was a great mixture of smart remarks and he man warrior. Gal Gadot, as always, owns the camera every time that she is on screen. Ray Fisher handles the complexity of Cyborg quite well.
Next week Darkest Hour (During the early days of World War II, the fate of Western Europe hangs on the newly-appointed British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, who must decide whether to negotiate with Hitler, or fight on against incredible odds. -IMDB) and The Current War (The dramatic story of the cutthroat race between electricity titans Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse to determine whose electrical system would power the modern world. IMDB) come out and am looking forward to seeing both of them.

(11,253 posts)Glad you liked it. Without giving away too much, were you happy with how they handled Superman?
Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of having a more complex Superman, and the idea of him struggling with being a child of two worlds (which was largely the point of Man of Steel) is really cool. I'm not sure it was executed well, but it's a great idea.
I read an interview with Zack Snyder a few months ago where he said that Justice League would be the first appearance of the "real" Superman, in that the other two movies were more about finding his place in the world.
Without going into the details of how he was brought back, is there really a tonal change in the character? I grew up with the Christopher Reeve movies, and I certainly don't want to go back to the sappy, one-dimensional Superman, but somewhere in between would be great so that you don't lose the iconic and inspirational part of the character.

(17,862 posts)but I read a headline talking about the problem with Clark Kent. He is dead too. In the graphic novel it was handled by Kent's body not being found after Doomsday's rampage. He was later discovered trapped after months in a bomb shelter or something equally hokey.
A great story line (that I think has been examined in the past) is what happens when Superman loses Clark Kent. Many comic writers have explored that it is his Clark Kent persona that is the only thing that keeps Kal El sane. Once his dual identity is discovered, Clark Kent effectively dies. It is the same problem famous people face, but even more so for Clark.

(11,253 posts)I'm not sure there really is a good way to handle the Clark Kent issue, dead or alive. You either just need to go forward without addressing the silliness of idea that the other characters won't figure it out who's behind the glasses, or change the story completely. I'd prefer the former. I'm not sure how that will play out, but I'd be good with having him stage being trapped beneath the rubble.
And this is even more nitpicking, but what's the deal with his suit? Are they going to just ignore the giant hole completely or give him a new one? If the latter, I thought that it was important for the suit to be made of Kryptonian material.

(10,951 posts)realistic (as realistic as you can be with a fictional story about super heroes) and honest approach. It was depicted as a complex event that needed to be worked out as opposed to the concept of pulling the proverbial switch and everything is immediately hunky dory. The result is a more complex Superman which I like a lot better as the old Superman of the Christopher Reeves day now looks so much more one dimensional. Superman is now much more interesting while staying true to the core of what he is all about.
I didn't know what I would think of the Aquaman character but decided that I really like Jason Mamoa's portrayal of the character.
To me what made the movie work is that they are building characters on a more multi-dimensional way, each one having their own flaws or weaknesses which makes them more human in a way and much more interesting. They are not perfect and they each have their own issues to work with. As the movies go on they will learn to deal with their own issues as they learn to work together. That is really highlighted in this first JL movie.

(11,253 posts)And I agree completely on the importance of having multi-dimensional characters. I love the Marvel movies as well, but sometimes a character's entire personality can be summed up as "guy who's constantly making wisecracks and witty retorts."
I was mostly just asking about the character as a whole. To me, there really needs to be a scene where you just look at the screen in awe because he's Superman. And that's not a knock on any of the other characters.

(17,862 posts)I was a huge JLA fan as a kid. I primarily collected DC (should have been buying more Marvel for the collector's value).
I didn't do much with New Gods (never read through the Kirby originals even though I collected Kamandi as my first series). I honestly didn't remember Steppenwolf until the movie was announced. When Starlin copied Darkseid with Thanos, DC probably should have done something about that then. I have actually never read the Infinity Gauntlet or War. I have those Graphic novels checked out of the library for Thanksgiving break.
DC has a problem with first through the door with both Ultron (think Brainiac) and Thanos (Darkseid).
Cyborg is always a Titan to me. I stopped my second iteration of collecting (college and post college) about that time. Except for Batman I have not really read much DC since the 80s.
I am hoping that the reviews are wrong, and Justice League does well.

(17,862 posts)Justice League is a great movie. I very much enjoyed it, and I now understand some of the decisions which were made.
My daughter who is not a comic reader but loves seeing super hero movies with me also thought that it was a fine movie.
It is a nice companion to Wonder Woman. It was a good year for DC movies.
