The DU Lounge

It also serves as what kind of economic situations you might have been in at the time. Or speaks to one's frugality (a mix of both in my case).

Big car gap while I was in the Navy
Next was a yellow Pinto. That was around 1983. Yea, looking back, I have to laugh
When I got out of the service I bought a Red Escort, sometime around 1985
Next a blue Cavalier, some time in the mid 1990's.
Then I entered my Saturn stage, and that's all I've driven, ever since.
The first was a lease on a Burgendy SL1 - maybe a 1998 or 99
Then I bought a Blue Saturn SL1, in about 2002.
My current car is a 2002 Gold Saturn station wagon that I bought from my Mom, when we realize she really shouldn't be driving. It overlapped my Blue SL1, for a few years, until I sold that to my brother, with less than 40,000 miles, on it.
My wagon has less than 95,000 miles on it. It is the first car I've owned that has any 'bells and whistles' like power windows, seats, etc. I will keep driving it until it dies, or someone takes away my keys.

(7,911 posts)My very first car:
I painted it copper color with a dozen spray cans. It was very "distinctive" sitting in the high school parking lot.
1967: an old Rambler Metropolitan convertible that I later gave to my dad, and he restored it as a project:
I don't have any idea what other cars I've had. I never cared much about cars, or paid any attention to them. They were simply a tool to move me around.
I did, however, own two different VW buses at various times in the 70s and 80s and an old Austin Healy Sprite in the 90s that tried very hard to kill me.

Too bad they d/c'd Mercuries.
I tried some Fords when my Villager died, but it wasn't the same. I switched to Subaru because it fit my lifestyle and because it had a decent rear window. Most other hatchbacks had non-existent rear windows with non-existent rear views.
Prior to my Dodge, I drove my parent's Pontiac wagon and my dad's Rambler. I didn't get my own car until I was graduating from college.
