So, THIS is now how Thanksgiving is celebrated in Texas?

My elder daughter spent Thanksgiving with our Dallas family. Or so she claims. She sent this pic to show us. It appears to be one of those puzzle pics where you are supposed to search in vain for pilgrims, turkeys, or cranberry sauce.

The retail malls use Thanksgiving weekend (4 days that many people have off work) to get them excited about shopping for Christmas gifts. The Thanksgiving holiday doesn't benefit the retail malls because they can't sell us anything for celebrating it. So the shopping malls in America just ignore Thanksgiving and start advertising for Christmas in mid-November.

This is a Christmas holiday decoration that was set up in the mall probably a few weeks ago and it will stay up until early January. We do celebrate Thanksgiving in the USA but mainly it's a private family gathering at home, with a traditional harvest dinner of roast turkey and various vegetables and extras. Families get together for the meal, argue about politics and watch football on TV. That's our Thanksgiving.

If you've heard about "Black Friday" it's not really a holiday. The retail stores advertise Black Friday because it's the day after Thanksgiving when everybody goes shopping for Christmas. It's when the stores finally start making money (in the black) after losing money all year (red.)

The Obamas were invited, but for some reason they were a "no show".

Just as well. The candy came from the the pinata store and it wasn't real candy.
