I was looking at taking a trip to Chicago in the summer to see the Foo Fighters, but my search for hotels on Kayak - I found nothing. Less than nothing in fact. It's all apartments for rent, or people's houses, or hostels, anything but actual hotels! I get wanting to compete with Air BNB, but I am not coming to Kayak looking to rent a random room somewhere, I want to stay in a hotel. Preferable a major chain.

(27,794 posts)then call the hotel directly to see if they'll match that price, which they will often do, because then they don't have to pay the companies.
I got misled into booking through Expedia a few years ago (the website basically mimicked the hotel's, and I ended up booking through them, not the hotel), then, when I thought they'd overcharged me for one night, they told me at the front desk that I couldn't get a receipt because I hadn't booked directly through them, which was news to me.
Anyway, my SO travels for work a lot, and one of the hotels told him to do that, because they'd have to rent the room for that rate either way and they prefer to have all the money go to the hotel.

I usually look at a google map of the area I'm visiting and tell it to show hotels and then I start looking at prices in the areas I want to be near. Occasionally I'll also look on expedia or priceline and rarely have I ever actually found a better deal than just dealing with the hotel directly.
I got my Foo tickets for Tampa already but I live in Orlando so no hotel needed this time around. Good luck!
I wish I knew who the opening act is for Tampa - they list a couple different ones for earlier dates but nothing for Tampa yet.

(100,043 posts)I'm sure whoever the Foos bring with them will be great, Dave has a knack for picking awesome support bands!

(12,132 posts)And I think that would be nifty but yeah, whoever it is ought to be pretty cool - Dave knows what's up.
