Question about Roosters (or should I say one that's weird and lazy)

I bought a few hens and a rooster about 3 months ago...anyway, here's what Sam (the rooster) does. >

1. He sleeps until 10:00 > 11:00 then crows his ass off for 15 minutes.
2. He's actually quite friendly...plays with the dogs and such....then sleeps until 3-4
wakes up and crows for 1/2 hour then plays some more.
3. When the sun is on the horizon (evening) he starts crowing his ass off...again
4. Shows little interest in the hens....maybe they're not his type? or pretty enough?
5. He likes to be petted and picked up
6. I mean, I like the fellow and all that but as far as "Roostering", he's a pretty sorry excuse for one.

any thoughts ??

Thanks
