Those are red foxes. They usually have black legs, although sometimes to varying degrees. Raccoon is thinking of gray foxes, which are more common down here in the South. Their legs are usually a mixture of gray and red.

I was going to go out on the lawn (this was at the trailer park, back when we had a lawn. LOL) and watch the meteors streak through the sky. I was just setting foot off the bottom of the steps when I heard this creepy howling and yipping. I knew what it was; that wasn't the problem. The trouble was that it sounded like there were a pile of them, and they were just across the road.

No way I was going to go lie down in the grass if they were that close by!

traveled through our yard and into the Court behind us, one sat in the middle of the road and groomed himself while the other tracked down rabbit tracks...very similar to your video.

I watched one at the airport (on the grass between the runways) through a pair of binoculars a year ago...watched him attack a mouse in the field...it was hilarious to watch him "pounce" with all four paws, back off and it again and again...they're absolutely fascinating to watch.

and realize if you start you can't stop. I feed a feral cat. I used to leave a bowl of dry cat food out for him but the raccoons came all the way up on my deck to get it. At first it was just a female (I am pretty sure it was a female) with one chopped off front leg. Poor thing, so I put some fruit and water because she was cleaning the food in our little fountain and making a mess. Pretty soon after she started coming, it only took about a week, I heard a ruckus and turned on the light. There were seven huge raccoons looking in at me. So now I only feed the kitty when he shows up on the deck.

Once you start and they begin to depend on you you can't stop, then they go to the neighbors as well and many of them will not appreciate them like you do and they get hurt or killed.

She just scares the living piss out of them and both she and the border collie leave them along (mostly) if they aren't in the garden. The sheltie grew up with a cottontail (older brother to her), but she knows to protect the garden. I've seen her "tag" two of them on the same run. That's really all she does, a nip at the back of the neck - "You're it!"
