A puppy named Byrdie delayed several flights at New York's LaGuardia Airport when she escaped from her crate and frolicked around a busy runway.
The Port Authority says the 30-pound Rhodesian ridgeback scampered around the runway for about 10 minutes on Wednesday while authorities unsuccessfully tried to collar her.
The agency says they had to find the pooch's owner aboard the Memphis-bound Delta Air Lines Airbus to help catch it.
The owner was brought out on to the runway. She called out to the 14-month-old pup and she came running to her.

(102,228 posts)I used to travel with a yellow lab mix and a sweet little britanny spaniel pup of my own. I was a wreck every single time, but in retrospect I think the fact I had two of them--helped to protect them. One can get careless with one dog a lot easier than with two and the fact they were so bonded probably helped them with the stress of travel.
My current babe is old now and so terrified of thunder and loud noises I'd never ever fly with her. But those other two--they were quite the pros.
Good on you, Byrdie... You had folks that cared.

(16,862 posts)We were at at picnic. I forgot something in the car and headed back to get it. When I was on my way back I saw this lady walking two very large dogs. As I crossed the sidewalk they came over and entangled me in their leashes. She was very apologetic and promising me they would not hurt me. I looked down and saw the strip of fur running up the back and had to ask her about it. As she was explaining the Rhodesian Ridgeback to me, I was rubbing them and we were all having a great time. Very sweet dogs, if properly trained.
