I've lived in this country for well over 30 years but I'm obviously missing something here. Why is "Dutch Oven" funny?

Sharing a large bag of (real, imported) licorice in the evening couldn't help but bring that situation about, I would think. Sounds like a perfect plan to test any new relationship. If she doesn't eat licorice, the relationship is beyond repair in any case.
