I learned my lesson this week!

I'm a project supervisor in the Telecom industry. Moved up from installation about a year ago. Tuesday, my project manager tells me I can go home after I deliver materials. "Just say you were writing MOP's (method of procedure)." Well, I don't like lying. And, I'm a team player. So I told him I'd call the project manager in the south and see if he needed help with anything.

"Man am I glad you called!" Cool right? "I got a understaffed crew pulling 750 like, 125 feet." Motherfucker. That's not what I expected. I haven't done physical labor since the promotion. I'm outta shape man! And 750 cable is like 3-3.5 pounds a foot! I'm 20 foot up in the air at an intersection with two 90 degree turns. Sweat is dripping off me into the aisle below. I'm dying. We pull the first 8 of 16 runs and have to stitch it to the cable rack. (DC cable in Telecom offices is run on horizontal ladder rack. It's then tied to the rungs using specific knots with waxed twine. You have to pull these knots tight to secure the cable.)

I get back to the hotel wrecked. Beat to shit. Exhausted. My hands are swollen and painful. Phone rings. It's my Operations manager. Okay. He's going to thank me for the effort and tell me how much he appreciates me coming down to help this job make it's completion date. Yada yada yada.

"Hey Steve. Tsup?"
"That'll teach ya to volunteer for shit won't it? Bwaahaha! Your ass is worn out huh? Bwaaahahaha! Bet you wish you went home now huh? Bwaaaahahaha!"

Lesson learned baby, lesson learned....

P.s. The project manager did spend some time kissing my ass for helping out.......so there's that.

Others don't often notice the extra some of us put in. Take it. No matter how it's couched! Lol.

And really, I know he appreciated it. I know it. Just woulda been more rewarding to hear than the laughter in my ear right?

It was appreciated by the others on that crew pulling the 750. Just imagine if you weren't there. Feel good about yourself.
