The Jackie Stewart Heineken Commercial

Been meaning to do this for a while. But, is anybody other than me annoyed by the tortured, thesbian way the woman sings "Heroes" in that commercial.

Clearly, she has never listened carefully to the original, nor has she actually read the words.

I know this is silly nit to pick. But as a giant Bowie fan, and given that's my 3 rd favorite album and in my top 10 Bowie songs, the fact that a person so misinterpreted the song is annoying.

1. Yeah. Real bad version as far as I'm concerned. I love that song and maybe even especially

some of his later performances of it. He could no longer sing it like he once could, but he came up with great ways to do it.

2. It's Supposed To Be Sung. . .

. . .with a sense of resignation and/or ennui. The lyrics make that obvious but it's also how David sings it.

The woman is belting it out like it's "Girls, Girls, Girls" by Motley Crue.

3. That version screams, "we didn't want to pay the full price to Bowie's estate." That's the same kind

of cost cutting that makes Heineken a crappy beer.

However, it is extremely cool to see Stewart. He was the coolest driver of my childhood and a big factor in safety in auto racing.

But, i have to mute the commercial, 'cuz boy that's a bad rendition. Can't even stand to hear it again.

I used to have an EP with David singing the song in three languages. Great stuff, great singer.

6. Speaking Of That

My wife and i were going somewhere last Saturday and we were listening to Saturday Morning Flashback on WXRT. (Always been Chicago's "cool" rock station.)

Peter Gabriel's "Games Without Frontiers" came on. It's was in German. I'd never heard the German version before. I got a sense that some of the words were changed a little bit to help create some rhymes (i don't speak any German) but it was pretty cool, even though i didn't really understand any of the words.

Dreadful version, and it's not the only such commercial either. I think there's another one with a version of Proud Mary rendered in an awful caterwauling.

10. That and the Trivago advertisements are the two I literally turn off when they come on.

That commercial is Jackie Stewart and Jackie Stewart alone. And I'm not even an auto racing fan.

I had no idea what they were promoting in the commercial until reading the header of this thread, and I'm sure I'll forget soon.
