Found out some weird stuff, including that Max Baer (who played Jethro) dated Sharon Tate!
Oh yeah! She played "Miss Jane's" assistant for a few years, wearing a black wig.

(823 posts)It goes a long way to explaining the show...the theme song is taken directly from the circumstances acted out in the pilot.

(322 posts)Individual sitcom episodes are often based on a misunderstanding. This show had that premise built right in. If they see a Kangaroo they think it's a giant jackrabbit. Mention the Chief Meteorologist and they figure he's an Indian etc etc.
I really like that the show is a serial where one episode builds into the next.
Here are some funny things about BHs:
Jethro's constantly changing career path (Double Naught Agent, 5 Star General, Astronaut, Brain Surgeon)
Elly May's critters- she took in any and everything and it was forever. A later episode showed that all the animals had a permanent home with her as they did a head count on all of 'em. 40 some dogs 40 some cats, Fairchild the Bear, Cousin Betsy the chimp etc
Granny MD (Mountain Doctor) had the same cure-all for most everything- Possum Ridge Pennicilon (Moonshine)
Jed- with all of the craziness going on, Jed was the stonefaced straight man. WEEEE DOOGGIE!
Best 30 seconds of the series- Sammy Davis Jr in a cameo as an Irish police officer in Central Park lol!
Almost forgot Miss Jane the hero of the show as the worked to the bone bank secretary who always had the Clampetts best interest in mind. Also Mr Drysdale who's love of money guides his every move and Mrs Drysdale the uppity better-than-you with whom Granny had so many battles.

(322 posts)Tom Mix, Clara Bow, Theda Barrow and the rest were the huge stars they wanted to visit in Beverly Hills. They saw one of those names in cement at the Chineese Theatre and felt the need to fill it in! (they thought she had vandalized it and wanted to right the wrong lol)
Mr.Bill
(24,282 posts)who is very wise but has little formal education as having "Jed Clampett common sense".

(6,252 posts)Also actress Bea Benaderet who played Jethro's mother auditioned for the role of Granny. She went to do the voice of Betty Rubble in The Flintstones and star in CBS sitcom Petticoat Junction.
