(115,661 posts)I hate them more than any vegetable that ever grew. They are vile and disgusting and they render whatever food they're in completely inedible. Especially the raw red ones, which taste like rotting garbage soaked in battery acid.
But Casey Jones was kind of fun.

(24,926 posts)Tell us how you really feel Ocelot!
I love 'em, but I know of many who don't.

(9,967 posts)Why, why why why why why why why why why why why why must every recipe include onions?
If I accidentally thank a bite that includes an onion it takes a superhuman effort not to throw up right then and there.
This is about cooked onions. I like raw onions in things like salad, pico de galllo, haburgers...
But cooked onions are just REVOLTING!!!!!!

(24,926 posts)but now I like liver and onions, with bacon!
MicaelS
(8,747 posts)It's a twofer, I like them both, but sometimes there's more onions on the plate than liver. It's all because of the masked potatoes needing loads of caramelized onions... that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
GallopingGhost
(2,404 posts)to cook and serve them is as a side dish.
Cut them up, and saute them with sliced mushrooms (any kind) in garlic butter until they are lightly caramelized.

(1,451 posts)...that was interesting 🤣 And yes, I adore onions! Once every now and then Ill even have a raw onion sandwich: thinly sliced onion on any kind of bread thats been loaded with good mayo (homemade or Dukes) and a little salt and pepper. Slab of fresh tomato in season
procon
(15,805 posts)coarsely ground black pepper, salt, a dribble of fresh lime juice, a smear of good mayo, all stacked on pumpernickel bread with pickled pepperoncini on the side. Good as is, but I add smashed avocado and a handful of alfalfa sprouts when I remember to buy them.

(9,258 posts)My mother hated onions so I never had them as a kid, discovered them later. Raw, cooked, caramelized...mmmm. DH picks onions off his hoagie (he only likes a few) and I add them to mine.

(14,565 posts)Also some sliced tomato.
I have veggie burgers every night, in fact in a few minutes. Those are my toppings.
But it would mean nothing without relish.
Relish is one of the awesome words in the language.

(58,347 posts)I could not live without onions or anything from the family - red onions, sweet onions, regular onions, scallions, leeks, shallots, garlic, ramps - all godly, all awesome, all things that I would have a difficult time living without.
As I have grown older, I have become lactose intolerant, and that's been an awful thing. But as much as I grieve that, I am totally happy to give up all that goodness so long as I can still eat from the onion family.
