“I can’t separate who I am now from what I got from Kerouac. I don’t know if I would ever have had the courage or the vision to do something outside with my life – or even suspected the possibilities existed – if it weren’t for Kerouac opening those doors.” - Jerry Garcia | Remembering Jack Kerouac who was born in Lowell, MA on this day in 1922.

Kerouac was a tortured soul and imperfect man.

A book I really enjoyed (that sent me back for a reread on many Kerouac works), was written Cassidy's wife, Off the Road.

Algren was doing the same type of writing 15 years before him.

Check out "Walk on the Wild Side" by Algren.

In my life I have lived a block away from Jack's house in Orlando, Fl and also where William and Emily Harris (Patty Hearst) lived in Bloomington, IN. Never new about either until I had moved in and would not have cared anyway.
