And I was short and could never see over the dashboard to the screen when I was a kid.

(776 posts)After that you had to tune to a certain station and everyone would end up with a dead battery. My hometown drive in is still going today. Still a great cheap night out

They wouldn't have been a great sounding speaker for our "home theater," but they would have looked cool.

(7,888 posts)We loved going to the drive-in, playing on the swings and getting snacks from the snack bar. The family dog always came along.

Also remember standing in line outside at the snack counter, and having to move to another spot because a speaker was bad. I think admission was under a dollar. At that time, I was mowing large yards with a push mower for 50 or 75 cents.
In college (mid-60s), I had just got married and was poor as dirt. The drive-in theater in that town gave free admission for something like 10 Coke or Pepsi bottle caps. I rigged a magnet on a string and we went around to outdoor drink machines and got caps until we got enough to get in free. Those really were the good old days!

(1,288 posts)I so vividly remember the humiliation of being released out of the trunk to the shining lights of the owner. My friends and I were trying to save money so two of us climbed in back. LOL.........

(9,706 posts)There's a drive-in still in operation in the next town north from where I live. I haven't been there in many, many years, but I'm glad it's still going.
