(115,673 posts)(a) I like chateaubriand, and (b) I don't have a dog. Caviar, however, is disgusting to me, but the cat was happy to have it.

(12,132 posts)I'd try it. There was certainly a time when I'da said "haaail no!" but I've been getting better at eating. I love sushi and that sometimes has roe so I think I could do this.

(24,324 posts)of course fresh, or well-selected is relative..... fresh in Tokyo or NY or SF is not the same as fresh in St Louis or Minneapolis. :> )))

But even 'not the best' is good, IF you like it.
And.if the restaurant KNOWS how to get good uni...

(6,232 posts)Cheap caviar is awful... not even close. Good caviar (which is expensive) tastes totally different. Of course, some people are still not going to like it. Fine. More for me.

(55,007 posts)put me in the more or less disgusting camp. I can eat it, but it just seems like bait to me. and it is especially gross on soft bread (or in blinis)

(11,949 posts)But then I also love spotted sea trout(not a trout) egg sacks rolled in cornmeal and fried in bacon fat. Upon reflection, I may like that better than caviar.
