(6,369 posts)The second Burger, although a bit smashed, actually looks decent.

(31,483 posts)of burgers for something like 10 for $2.00. They consisted of a very small meat patty and grilled onions with a little mustard smeared on the bun. The grease from the burgers would soak through the paper they were wrapped in and would saturate the paper bag. As awful as it sounds, those were some great tasting burgers and just driving past the place and smelling those grilled onions was enough to make your mouth water.
It was customary to stop there and pick up a bag of burgers on your way to the drive-in on $1.00 a carload night.

(16,254 posts)There were probably 10 stools and they were rarely empty. You could stand behind those sitting on the stools until they stood up to leave and then you took your turn at the counter. If the weather was halfway decent, you had to wait in line outside and everyone did so without complaint. The chili was also good.

I was thinking about Krystal and remember what a sham that place was!

(41,915 posts)Yes, there were myriad wonderful, cheap eats even then. But after a, shall we say, eventful night out at about two am a bag of sliders from White Castle was NECESSARY.

(81 posts)burger that some people still seem to claim to love is Tommy's Chili-cheeseburger!

"No fries, chips!"
It's more like a "rite of passage" standing in line in Hollywood at 2AM than a good burger.
Still, if you are ever in Hollywood, DO have a Tommy-burger, don't be left out!

We used to always like Carl's jr. back in So. Cal, it was our band's unofficial conference room.

That was a great time for So. Cal, by the time I left in 1991 everything good had been ruined.
So, I came up here to Seattle and have never regretted it.

(22,119 posts)are the local leaders. If you are ever in Fort Worth, be sure to find a Tommy's (there are three locations) They are solid strong Democrats and even host the monthly Stonewall Democrats club meeting! Their private room hosts all kinds of Democratic group lunches, Committee meetings, and a few Executive Board meetings of the various local grass roots clubs.
The green chili goat cheese burger is awesome, and the made in house potato chips as well. You can even get a bunless burger served in a big salad. Any of the many varieties.
