From now on, we are leasing a vehicle instead of owning one...

it just made sense at our age not to be burdened by the cost of maintaining another owned vehicle.

My Versa was great, but we are going for a Sentra. A little bigger and perfect for my husband's beloved tailgate parties and my limited use of a car.

It feels a little weird. But we drive less and less and given the pros and cons, it turns out to be the best solution. Our doctors are pretty close. My supermarket is very close. We have wine delivered. I take the train to Boston to see my family (or my son drives me up for Thanksgiving).

I think my family will be relieved that I am no longer driving any long distances and a switch to a lease. It all adds up to a wise decision, IMO...

I have 3 older vehicles and it is closing in on time to make some decisions.

3. we walked through all of that. I had to find the title on his car in my files but we DID find it...

With that title, we are golden.

I will now have a clean, comfortable car that will need servicing twice a year at the dealership (which is minutes from our house) and fill the gas tank (I don't do this anymore, the lady at my gas station does it for me). My husband's physical therapy is also very close by. I take a cab to my hairdresser for my cuts and styling every six weeks or so.

Those, and my nail salon are really all we needed.

Drive as near to limit as you can. Otherwise you are giving a big gift to the dealer.

vehicle without the grief of doing or worrying about repairs. This is the only way to fly. Just checked to see how many miles we have driven in the past three years. Scary,7k,like you everything is close and when don't do the Mega Road trips anymore. Cheaper to fly and use one of the kids cars.

6. I was driving less than 50 miles per month, so I ended up paying $1 a mile for insurance.

It just didn't make sense to own a car at all any more, so I built an electric bicycle, and use the city bus when I can, and if all else fails, call a taxi 3 or 4 times a year. It saves me a bundle.

9. We have a leased Sentra.

It's been a very good deal for us. Cheaper payment than if we bought, and with our reduced income after retiring, this was a necessity. We drive about 12K miles a year, so we are right on schedule with the mileage restriction.

The lease will run out this October, and we have not yet decided whether to buy or lease another one. The payment will actually go up a little if we buy, but there will be the light at the end of the tunnel of having it paid off and no payment left at all with plenty of good years hopefully left in the car. But technology marches on, and safety wise, there are some advantages to having another new one. Also if we buy it, there will be no warranty left unless we purchase one and they are expensive. But so are repairs. Another factor here is I have maintained and serviced the car well and have much confidence in it's longevity.

No one has a crystal ball to tell the future, but these are all things you should consider with your lease or purchase. Whatever you choose, best of luck and safe driving to you.

I never quite understood husband's rationale, and of course we always had over-costs at end of term. AND, even after we separated and had separate cars, he leased his, and I/his estate had the 'honor' of paying his 'over' fees.

We never DIDN'T drive because of leases, and he let our daughter borrow his car for a spring-break excursion from DC to Florida, with college friends. Was a good idea, safety-wise, but prolly not, mileage-wise.

Enjoy your new car! I now drive what was Dad's '93 Toyo wagon.
