Plus he's a big surfer and I'm sure he's too cool to use sun screen. He's super fit though. I'll give him that.

I hope it's just garden-variety stage-fright. He did light up a second cigarette, so he's either "on the chain," or it was the one thing he could do to soothe his nerves a bit.

10. Probably a result of reading the reviews of his new "novel."

And from the excerpts I've read, the critics are on target. I credit him as being a damn fine actor who's turned some offbeat and interesting performances over the decades.

But Penn has always taken himself way too seriously. He can't roll with the punches (especially when he's doing the punching). He seems permanently tense and internally wound-up, like his adrenaline is really pumping. He now strikes me as a guy who's just a couple of self-imposed stressors away from a breakdown or heart attack.

12. Even though I've never been crazy about Penn, I still thought he was a fine actor.

It sounds like he's not enjoying that anymore either. Sad guy. Too bad.

I agree, he's acted superbly in numerous films for 35 years, give or take, and has been awarded and lauded by his peers, in spite of all the anti-social behaviors he'd displayed over the years.

Whatever's eating him, I hope he can find some peace. It won't be had with his book, which is taking a merciless pounding in the media. But I think he anticipated that happening, and perhaps he even wanted that reaction. It's simultaneously self-indulgent and self-destructive.

They all smoked on the space ship! And they had a cat on board. Imagine the fine particles that got into the circuitry!

Neil deGrasse Tyson is 2 years older than Sean Penn - and he looks 20 years younger.

It was made way back in the late 70s which might explain it, except even back then I remember thinking that it was odd there were still so many cigarettes.

He talked about how he would like to give up smoking.

My cousin used to live a block away from him. My cousin was a bit "quirky" shall we say and she even said he was a weirdo!
